Mobile Hybrid Repair & Diagnostics

Hybrids have a gas engine and a high-voltage system working together, and either one can be behind a warning light. I test both before I tell you what's wrong.

Toyota and Lexus hybrids

Priuses, RAV4 and Camry Hybrids, Highlander Hybrids, and Lexus hybrids are everywhere in Ojai and Santa Barbara, and a lot of them have high miles. The common problems are clogged battery cooling fans and vents, failed inverter coolant pumps, and, on some 2010 to 2015 Priuses, a clogged EGR system that can eventually cause a head gasket failure if it's ignored. Cleaning the EGR early costs a lot less.

What I check on a hybrid

Ford, Honda, Hyundai, and Kia hybrids

Escape and Maverick hybrids, Fusion, Accord and CR-V Hybrids, and Hyundai and Kia hybrids all get the same process: scan the whole car, test each part, and explain what I found before I quote the repair.

Hybrid questions

Does a hybrid warning light mean I need a new battery?

Not necessarily. A clogged battery cooling fan, an inverter coolant pump, or an engine problem can all set warnings. The battery should be tested before you spend money replacing it.

My Prius has a fan vent near the back seat. Does that matter?

On many Toyota hybrids, yes. That vent cools the hybrid battery. If it's clogged with dust or pet hair, the battery runs hot and wears out faster. It's a cheap thing to clean.

Can you work on the high-voltage parts?

Yes. I'm High Voltage Safety Certified and follow proper isolation steps.
