Don’t Wait for the Squeal

Squealing is often the wear indicator already grinding. At the first soft pedal feel, longer stopping distance, or dashboard light, get a measurement. Catching pads at 3–4 mm remaining saves rotors and money.

12V Battery Kills More EVs Than You Think

Most “dead Tesla / dead EV” tow calls are a failed 12-volt battery, not the high-voltage pack. Test and replace the 12V on the manufacturer’s interval (often 3–5 years) even if the car “seems fine.”

Coolant Is Not Forever

Modern long-life coolants still break down. Color change, oily film, or low level without visible leak are early warnings. A $150 flush beats a $2,000 water pump or heater core job later.

Pre-Trip Inspection Saves Vacations

Before any multi-day trip: check roof seals, run the generator under load for 15 minutes, verify all slides and jacks, test propane appliances, and confirm spare tire pressure. 90% of “vacation-ruining” failures are preventable.

Clearing Codes Is Not a Repair

A $20 code reader that erases the light without fixing the cause just resets the timer. Proper diagnosis finds the root — sensor, wiring, mechanical, software — then confirms the fix with live data.

Pressure Is Free Horsepower & Safety

Check cold pressures monthly and before any long drive. Underinflation kills fuel economy, heat builds, and sidewalls fail. Keep a quality gauge in the glovebox — don’t trust the pump’s readout alone.

When should I replace my brake fluid?
Most manufacturers recommend every 2–3 years regardless of mileage. Brake fluid is hygroscopic (absorbs water). Water lowers the boiling point and causes internal corrosion. If the fluid is dark or the moisture content is high on a test strip, flush it. Performance and track cars should use high-temp fluid and flush more often.
What’s the real difference between OEM and aftermarket parts?
OEM is the exact part the car left the factory with (or the current supersession). Quality aftermarket (OEM suppliers selling under their own brand, or premium brands with OE contracts) is often identical or better. Cheap no-name parts create comebacks. We use OEM or equivalent premium aftermarket and will tell you the difference on every quote.
How often should an EV’s coolant be serviced?
It varies by manufacturer. Tesla generally recommends battery coolant every 4 years / 50k miles (check your specific model). Other platforms have their own intervals. The battery thermal loop is critical — neglected coolant can lead to reduced charging speed, power limiting, or premature pack issues. We follow factory procedure and use the correct fluid.
My RV has a soft spot on the floor / ceiling — what now?
Soft spots almost always mean water intrusion. The priority is stopping the leak source (roof, window, slide seal, plumbing) before major structural repair. We perform moisture mapping and leak isolation so you know the full scope before committing to repair. Early intervention is dramatically cheaper than waiting.
Why do European cars need more specialized tools?
Many European platforms use manufacturer-specific protocols for coding, adaptations, and security. A generic OBD scanner can read codes but cannot perform the bi-directional tests, module programming, or adaptations required for a complete repair. We invest in the proper tools and training so the job is finished correctly the first time.
