GTIs, Jettas, Tiguans, Atlases, and a lot of TDI diesels still on the road around here. I diagnose and repair VWs where you park them.
The 2.0T and 1.8T engines in most modern VWs are strong but have some well-known weak spots. Most can be fixed in your driveway.
Jetta, Golf, Passat, and Touareg TDIs are still common, especially among people who drive a lot of highway miles. EGR valves and coolers, the DPF, glow plugs, and NOx and other sensors are the usual issues. Short trips around town are hard on the DPF. A proper diagnosis tells you whether you need a part or just a good highway drive and a regeneration.
DSG fluid and filter service on schedule is the single best thing you can do for these transmissions. I do it with the correct fluid and the factory fill procedure, and check for stored transmission faults at the same time.
Yes, including cars that had the emissions fix done. Common problems are EGR and DPF faults, glow plugs, and sensors. I'll check whether any warranty from the emissions settlement still covers your car.
Most VW DSG transmissions call for fluid and filter service around every 40,000 miles. Skipping it can cause jerky low-speed shifts and repairs that cost a lot more.
Check under the intake side of the engine. On many modern VW gas engines, the plastic water pump and thermostat housing leaks slowly and the coolant evaporates before it ever drips.
